Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd., France’s Touax Group and US-based TrinityRail Global will invest around ₹2,000 crore over the next three years to strengthen India’s private rail wagon leasing market, with plans to procure 100 freight train rakes comprising nearly 6,500 wagons. The investment is aimed at meeting the country’s rising freight transportation requirements while supporting the growing role of private participation in the railway sector.

The three partners will channel the investment through their joint venture, Touax Texmaco Railcar Leasing (TTRL), where Texmaco and Touax each hold a 34% stake, while TrinityRail Global owns the remaining 32%. The venture combines Texmaco’s manufacturing capabilities, Touax’s railcar leasing expertise and TrinityRail’s technology and lifecycle asset management experience to offer integrated leasing solutions for freight operators.

The companies believe the partnership is well positioned to benefit from India’s push to raise rail’s share in freight movement from 27% to 45% under the National Rail Plan, alongside initiatives such as PM Gati Shakti, the National Logistics Policy and the expansion of Dedicated Freight Corridors. These programmes are expected to drive sustained demand for modern freight wagons and flexible leasing models.

Saroj Kumar Poddar, Chairman of Texmaco Rail & Engineering, said the collaboration brings together global expertise in manufacturing, leasing and rail technology to build a future-ready freight ecosystem for India. Executives from Touax and TrinityRail added that the platform will help introduce advanced wagon designs, improve asset utilisation, lower lifecycle costs and expand access to competitive financing for customers in one of the world’s fastest-growing rail freight markets.
