Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, a major infrastructure project aimed at transforming connectivity between North India’s key economic and tourism hubs.

The corridor, spanning approximately 210-213 km, has been developed as a six-lane, access-controlled expressway connecting Delhi with Dehradun, passing through key regions of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It has been built at an estimated cost of around ₹12,000 crore, making it one of the most significant highway projects in the region.

A major highlight of the corridor is its ability to reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours to nearly 2.5 hours, significantly improving mobility for passengers and freight movement.

The project incorporates several advanced engineering and sustainability features, including:
•Around 10 interchanges, multiple bridges, and railway overbridges
•12 roadside amenities for travellers
•An advanced traffic management system for safety and efficiency
•A 12-km elevated wildlife corridor, among the longest in Asia, designed to minimise human-animal conflict

The corridor has been designed not just as a transport route but as a strategic economic enabler, expected to boost tourism, industrial activity, and regional trade, particularly benefiting districts such as Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, and Saharanpur.

During his visit, the Prime Minister also reviewed key sections of the project, including the wildlife corridor infrastructure, and addressed a public gathering in Dehradun, underlining the project’s importance in India’s infrastructure growth story.

The inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor marks a significant milestone in India’s highway development programme, reinforcing the government’s focus on high-speed, sustainable, and future-ready road infrastructure.
