Mumbai–Nagpur bullet train corridor set to transform Maharashtra’s transport, connecting 14 stations at speeds up to 350 km/h.

The proposed Mumbai–Nagpur high-speed rail corridor is back in focus, with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stating that the project is under review by the Railway Ministry and the central government.
Envisioned as a 749 km high-speed line, the corridor is planned to connect Mumbai and Nagpur with trains capable of running at 330–350 km/h. The design includes 14 stations, 15 tunnels, and seating capacity for nearly 750 passengers per train, with land acquisition needs estimated at around 1,245 hectares.
Fadnavis mentioned that nearly 78% of the project work is technically ready to move ahead, while the remaining 22% requires more coordination between the Centre and the Railways. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) was submitted in 2023, but final approvals and timelines are still awaited.
If cleared, this will be Maharashtra’s second major bullet train project after the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor, which is currently under construction and expected to be operational later this decade.
