The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has received approval to fell or transplant 364 trees for the construction of the proposed Central Vista metro corridor, a key component of the upcoming Indraprastha–Inderlok metro line under Phase IV of the Delhi Metro expansion programme.
According to the approval granted by the Tree Authority, 193 trees will be felled, while 171 trees will be transplanted to facilitate the development of the metro corridor. The affected trees are located along the planned alignment and at sites required for station construction and associated infrastructure works.
The Central Vista metro corridor is designed to improve connectivity to important government and administrative zones in the national capital. The proposed line will pass through key areas of central Delhi and is expected to strengthen integration with the existing metro network.
As part of the approval conditions, DMRC has been directed to undertake compensatory plantation measures and ensure the transplantation of suitable trees in accordance with prescribed environmental norms. The agency will also be required to monitor the survival and growth of transplanted trees.
The project forms part of Delhi Metro’s Phase IV expansion plan, which aims to extend metro connectivity to new areas while improving access to major employment centres, residential zones, and public institutions across the National Capital Region.
Officials have stated that the tree removal and transplantation activities are necessary for the execution of critical civil works associated with the corridor. The approvals are expected to facilitate the commencement of construction activities on sections of the project where environmental clearances were pending.
The Central Vista metro corridor is expected to provide enhanced public transport access to one of Delhi’s most important administrative districts while supporting the city’s broader goals of sustainable urban mobility and reduced dependence on private vehicles.
The approval marks an important step in advancing the project, allowing construction activities to move forward in line with the planned expansion of Delhi’s metro network.
