BRO Builds World’s Highest Motorable Road at 19,400 ft in Ladakh, Surpassing Its Own Record

World’s highest motorable road built by BRO at 19,400 feet in Marsimik La, Ladakh connecting Pangong Lake and LAC under Project Himank
Border Roads Organisation (BRO) sets a global record by building the world’s highest motorable road at 19,400 feet in Marsimik La, Ladakh under Project Himank.

In a remarkable engineering achievement, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has constructed the world’s highest motorable road at an altitude of 19,400 feet in Ladakh, setting a new global record and surpassing its own previous feat.

The newly completed road passes through Marsimik La, located near the northern boundary of Pangong Lake, and connects vital forward areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This strategic link not only enhances defense preparedness but also improves connectivity for local communities in the harsh Himalayan terrain.

The project, executed under Project Himank, showcases BRO’s exceptional capability to overcome extreme weather, low oxygen levels, and difficult terrain to deliver world-class infrastructure at unprecedented altitudes.

Earlier, BRO had held the record for building the world’s highest motorable road at Umling La (19,024 feet) in eastern Ladakh. The new milestone at Marsimik La now redefines global benchmarks for road construction in high-altitude regions.

Officials stated that this achievement reflects India’s growing expertise in high-altitude infrastructure development and its commitment to strengthening border connectivity under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

With this project, BRO continues to push the limits of engineering excellence, reaffirming its crucial role in enhancing India’s strategic and socio-economic frontiers.
