Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development initiatives during his visit to Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in Nagpur, aimed at strengthening mining infrastructure, environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.

During the programme, the minister virtually flagged off 25 electric vehicles to support cleaner mobility within mining operations. He also laid the foundation stones for several key projects, including the Black Diamond Sports Stadium in the Kamptee area of Nagpur, the Swami Vivekananda Eco Park in the Tadali region of Wani, and the First Mile Connectivity project at the Sasti Open Cast Mine in Ballarpur.

These initiatives are expected to enhance infrastructure development, strengthen environmental protection efforts and modernise coal mining operations across WCL’s operational regions.

Following the inaugurations, the minister chaired a review meeting to assess coal production, mine safety, sustainability initiatives and future expansion plans of Western Coalfields Limited. He appreciated the performance and work culture of the WCL team and expressed confidence that the company would achieve stronger results in the current financial year.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Coal, Coal India Limited and Western Coalfields Limited attended the meeting, where the company’s leadership presented updates on operational achievements and progress during the financial year 2025–26.

As part of the visit, the minister is also scheduled to inspect the Murpar underground mine and review the ongoing mine closure process, followed by discussions with local administration and the Mine Closure Advisory Committee on sustainable post-mining land use and community engagement.
