Eight new rail-road infrastructure projects inaugurated in Vidarbha aim to ease congestion, improve safety, and strengthen multimodal connectivity across the region.

In a major boost to regional connectivity and safety, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated eight critical rail-road infrastructure projects across Vidarbha. The initiatives, which include multiple road overbridges, subways, and flyover structures, are part of a broader infrastructure rollout valued at ₹609 crore undertaken by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MahaRail).

The infrastructure push, formally dedicated to the public during an event attended by senior officials and state leaders, focuses on easing traffic congestion at busy level crossings, improving road safety, and enhancing multimodal mobility across the region.

Among the key projects inaugurated is the Lakadganj flyover in Nagpur, a 1,372-metre structure built at an approximate cost of ₹135 crore. This flyover is expected to significantly improve vehicle flow and reduce delays on the heavily trafficked Old Bhandara Road corridor.

The eight projects include:
•Four Road Over Bridges (RoBs) that eliminate conflict points between rail tracks and road traffic
•Three Road Under Bridges (RuBs/subways) ensuring uninterrupted vehicular and pedestrian movement
•Major flyover works that enhance urban connectivity in key Vidarbha towns and cities

These infrastructure developments were constructed under a cost-sharing arrangement between the Ministry of Railways and the Government of Maharashtra, reinforcing cooperative federal efforts to modernise transport facilities in the state.

Addressing the gathering via video conference, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the state’s ambition to systematically eliminate level crossing bottlenecks and make rail–road intersections safer and more efficient for commuters and freight.

The inauguration reflects a wider push in the state to upgrade transportation corridors and enhance overall regional connectivity, with Vidarbha emerging as a key focus area for infrastructure expansion. Planning authorities believe the latest projects will not only improve commuter experience but also support economic activity by facilitating smoother movement of goods within and beyond the region.
