The Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction of ₹2,278.14 crore for land acquisition and utility shifting to facilitate the development of the proposed Joint-Use Airport (JUA) at Adilabad. The project, to be developed jointly by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), is expected to strengthen both civil aviation and defence infrastructure in north Telangana.
The sanctioned amount will be utilised for the acquisition of 2,009.23 acres of land, of which 1,609.23 acres have been earmarked for the IAF, while the remaining 400 acres will accommodate the civil aviation enclave, including facilities for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), cargo operations, aircraft hangars and future expansion.
The approval also covers utility relocation and associated infrastructure works, including the diversion of existing roads, shifting of 765 kV high-tension transmission lines, relocation of water supply infrastructure and streams, and removal of electrical installations required for the airport’s development. The state government has directed the Adilabad District Collector to complete land acquisition and utility shifting by December 31, 2026.
According to the state government, the Adilabad Joint-Use Airport is expected to improve regional air connectivity, support industrial and logistics growth, strengthen cargo movement and tourism, and create new employment opportunities in north Telangana. The project has been progressing through coordination between the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Airports Authority of India, and the Telangana government.
