Siemens has completed the acquisition of key businesses of Italy-based MERMEC Group following receipt of all required regulatory approvals. The acquired businesses have now become part of Siemens Mobility, strengthening its capabilities in railway signalling, electrification, diagnostics and measurement technologies. The transaction, initially announced in May 2026, also expands Siemens Mobility’s industrial presence in Italy.

The acquisition covers MERMEC’s businesses in Italian wayside signalling, electrification, telecommunications, diagnostics, analytics and worldwide data infrastructure. However, it excludes the group’s investments in Angelstar S.r.l., Mont Saint Michel S.A.S. and its subsidiary Compagnie des Signaux S.A.S., along with CSEE DE, formerly known as MERMEC Deutschland, which remains with Angelo Holding.

The acquired businesses employ around 1,700 people and serve customers in more than 70 countries. They generated approximately €430 million in revenue in FY2025. Their employees, operating sites and industrial capabilities, including the Ferrosud facility in Matera, will become part of Siemens Mobility’s global innovation network.

The integration will combine Siemens’ expertise in urban signalling and asset intelligence with MERMEC’s established presence in mainline railway infrastructure and its portfolio of diagnostic vehicles, measurement systems and inspection software. The combined capabilities are expected to provide railway operators with an expanded range of infrastructure monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions.

The acquisition will also support the modernisation and digitalisation of Italy’s railway network. Siemens Mobility plans to use the combined portfolio to strengthen its diagnostic and analytics offerings and extend these technologies to customers through its international network.

Commenting on the completion, Michael Peter, President of Siemens Mobility, said the addition of MERMEC’s businesses and employees marks an important milestone in strengthening the company’s global rail technology portfolio. He added that combining the capabilities in signalling, diagnostics and asset intelligence would expand the solutions available to customers worldwide while increasing Siemens Mobility’s industrial footprint in Italy.

The transaction is expected to strengthen Siemens Mobility’s position in the global railway infrastructure market, particularly in diagnostics and data-driven asset management.
