Shiva Cement Ltd. has expanded the scope of its mining operations in Odisha after securing statutory approvals to commercially extract and sell 2.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of dolomite from its Khatkurbahal (North) Limestone and Dolomite Block in Sundargarh district. The clearance enables the company to tap a new commercial opportunity by monetising dolomite reserves in addition to its existing limestone resources.
The approvals include a modified Environmental Clearance and a Consent to Operate issued by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board, allowing commercial production and sale of dolomite from the mining lease. The consent is valid until March 31, 2027.
The Khatkurbahal (North) block hosts substantial dolomite deposits alongside limestone, and the latest approval allows Shiva Cement to utilise the mineral for both captive requirements and commercial sales. Dolomite is widely used by the steel, cement, glass and refractory industries, making it an important industrial raw material.
Manoj Kumar Rustagi, Whole-time Director and CEO of Shiva Cement, said the approval marks an important step in unlocking the full potential of the company’s mineral assets. He noted that commercial dolomite mining will broaden the company’s revenue base while strengthening resource utilisation and supporting its long-term growth strategy.
A subsidiary of JSW Cement, Shiva Cement has been strengthening its integrated operations in eastern India through investments in mining and cement manufacturing. The commencement of commercial dolomite mining is expected to complement these expansion plans by improving raw material integration and creating additional business opportunities from its existing mining lease.
