The Ministry of Railways has approved the construction of four new railway line projects in West Bengal, aimed at enhancing connectivity in the border region near Bangladesh and supporting regional economic growth. The projects were cleared recently and target expansion of the rail network in North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts.
The combined length of the four new lines will extend to over 53 kilometres once completed. These routes are expected to improve transportation links, facilitate faster movement of goods, and provide greater opportunities for local trade and agriculture by making freight transport more efficient and cost-effective.
The individual rail sections that have been approved include:
•Bangaon–Poramaheshtala (around 20 km)
•Bangaon–Chandabazar (approximately 11.5 km)
•Chandabazar–Bagdah (about 13.8 km)
•Ranaghat (Aranghata)–Duttaphulia (roughly 8.17 km)
The officials noted that beyond improving passenger and freight movement, the new lines will also play a strategic role in strengthening connectivity close to the international border with Bangladesh. This enhanced infrastructure is expected to benefit local communities and contribute to socio-economic development in the region.
