The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to deploy Network Survey Vehicles (NSVs) across the country to conduct detailed assessments of more than 20,000 kilometres of national highways. The initiative aims to enhance road safety, improve asset management, and ensure the timely maintenance of India’s expanding highway network.
These advanced vehicles are equipped with high-resolution cameras, laser profilers, and GPS-based systems to capture real-time data on road surface conditions, roughness, and geometry. The collected information will be used to identify maintenance needs, plan repairs, and monitor pavement quality with greater accuracy and transparency.
According to NHAI, the large-scale deployment of NSVs will enable data-driven decision-making and help maintain highways at optimum service levels. It will also support the government’s broader efforts to adopt digital and technology-based monitoring systems for national infrastructure.
By leveraging such intelligent monitoring tools, NHAI aims to create a safer and more efficient highway network that aligns with India’s long-term infrastructure and mobility goals.
