“We would like LiuGong India to be remembered for contributing meaningfully to the development of India’s construction equipment ecosystem. For LiuGong, the opportunity is to build capabilities that serve the domestic market while creating a stronger foundation, without compromising on product quality or customer requirements.”
1. India’s infrastructure ambitions are growing in both scale and complexity. From expressways and metro networks to mining and industrial corridors, every project demands faster execution without compromising quality. In this changing landscape, how do you believe the role of construction equipment is evolving, and what new expectations are customers placing on manufacturers today?
Construction equipment is increasingly becoming a critical productivity and project-performance tool rather than simply a machine used on site. As projects become larger and timelines more demanding, customers are looking for higher productivity, better uptime and greater operating efficiency. At the same time, expectations are expanding around fuel efficiency, total cost of ownership, operator comfort, safety and technology. Customers also expect manufacturers to provide strong after-sales support and parts availability. The relationship is therefore becoming more comprehensive, with equipment performance, technology and lifecycle support all contributing to project success.
2. LiuGong’s expansion of its Pithampur manufacturing facility marks another step in strengthening its presence in India. How does this investment fit into the company’s broader plans for localisation, product development and exports, and what does India represent within LiuGong’s global manufacturing strategy?
Strengthening manufacturing capabilities in India is an important step towards deeper localisation and closer alignment with the requirements of the Indian market. A stronger local manufacturing base can support greater responsiveness, supply-chain efficiency and the development of equipment suited to local applications. India also has the potential to play a broader role within global manufacturing and supply networks. For LiuGong, the opportunity is to build capabilities that serve the domestic market while creating a stronger foundation, without compromising on product quality or customer requirements.
3. Electric construction equipment is steadily moving from concept to commercial reality across several global markets. From LiuGong’s perspective, what will determine the pace of adoption in India, and what challenges must the industry address before these technologies become part of mainstream construction activity?
The pace of electric equipment adoption in India will depend on several factors coming together. Charging infrastructure, electricity availability, battery technology, machine utilization and the overall cost of ownership will be important considerations. Customers also need confidence that electric machines can meet their productivity and uptime expectations. I believe adoption will initially be stronger in applications where operating patterns and charging can be managed more easily. As technology develops and the supporting ecosystem improves, electric equipment can gradually become a more mainstream part of India’s construction equipment landscape.
4. Automation, artificial intelligence, and machine connectivity are advancing rapidly across the construction equipment industry. Looking beyond the current trends, which technological breakthrough do you believe has the potential to fundamentally change the way heavy equipment is designed, operated, or maintained in the years ahead?
One of the biggest opportunities could come from combining artificial intelligence with connected equipment. Instead of machines simply providing data, the next step is for that information to help predict maintenance requirements, improve machine utilisation and support better operating decisions. Over time, greater levels of automation could also change how machines are operated, particularly in repetitive or high-risk applications. However, adoption will depend on reliability, safety, customer acceptance and economics. The real breakthrough will be when technology becomes practical enough to solve everyday challenges on the jobsite.
5. Every phase of infrastructure development leaves behind a lasting legacy not only through the projects that are built but also through the technologies that make them possible. As India’s construction equipment industry enters its next chapter, what contribution would you like LiuGong India to be remembered for?
We would like LiuGong India to be remembered for contributing meaningfully to the development of India’s construction equipment ecosystem. That means supporting customers with equipment that improves productivity and efficiency, while also helping the industry move towards newer and more sustainable technologies. Equally important is building trust through dependable support and long-term customer relationships. Ultimately, the strongest legacy is not simply the number of machines operating in the field, but the contribution those machines make to building India’s infrastructure and enabling the next generation of construction.
6. Bauma CONEXPO India has become an important meeting point for the construction equipment and infrastructure ecosystem. What are you bringing to the 2026 edition that reflects where LiuGong India and the wider industry is headed next?
Bauma CONEXPO INDIA provides an important platform to engage directly with customers and understand how their requirements are evolving. At the 2026 edition, LiuGong India will showcase three electric machines — the 820TE, 906FE and LS1012H. Their presence reflects the industry’s growing focus on electrification and more sustainable equipment solutions. Beyond the machines themselves, the exhibition provides an opportunity to discuss how new technologies can become practical solutions for Indian applications. It brings the industry together around productivity, sustainability and the future direction of construction equipment.
7. LiuGong India has steadily strengthened its presence in the country through manufacturing expansion, product portfolio enhancement, and customer-centric initiatives. Looking ahead, what are the company’s key strategic priorities over the next few years, and where do you see the biggest opportunities for growth in an increasingly competitive construction equipment market?
Our priorities are centred on strengthening the product portfolio, advancing technology, deepening localisation and continuing to enhance customer and after-sales support. We also see opportunities across India’s infrastructure development, road construction, urbanisation, mining and industrial activity. As competition increases, customers will increasingly look for the right combination of productivity, reliability, operating economics and lifecycle support. Sustainability will also become more relevant, with electric and other energy-efficient equipment gradually gaining importance. Our focus is to remain closely aligned with these changing requirements and build sustainable long-term growth in India.
