Kamarajar Port Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NBCC (India) Limited for the development of a new North Gate Complex and associated infrastructure at the port, marking a significant step in strengthening operational facilities and improving access infrastructure.

Under the agreement, NBCC will undertake the development of the North Gate Complex building along with connecting concrete roads and other supporting infrastructure facilities within the port premises. The project is aimed at enhancing entry and exit management, streamlining port operations, and supporting future growth in cargo and logistics activities.

The proposed development forms part of Kamarajar Port’s broader infrastructure modernisation programme focused on improving operational efficiency, strengthening logistics support systems, and creating world-class port infrastructure. The North Gate Complex is expected to serve as a key operational hub, facilitating smoother movement of vehicles, cargo, and stakeholders within the port ecosystem.

NBCC, a Navratna public sector enterprise with extensive experience in infrastructure and project management, will bring its expertise in planning and execution to the project. The collaboration is expected to ensure the timely development of modern facilities aligned with the port’s long-term expansion objectives.

Kamarajar Port, located on the outskirts of Chennai, has emerged as one of India’s key ports for handling coal, automobiles, liquid cargo, and other bulk commodities. Continued investments in infrastructure are aimed at strengthening its position as a major maritime and logistics gateway on the east coast.

The MoU reflects the port’s ongoing focus on capacity enhancement, infrastructure upgrades, and operational improvements as it prepares to accommodate growing cargo volumes and evolving logistics requirements in the years ahead.
