Jupiter Wagons Ltd has secured an order worth ₹97.66 crore from GATX India Private Limited for the manufacture and supply of BFNS22.9 rakes. The order includes applicable taxes and was announced by the company on September 8.
Jupiter Wagons has entered into a Wagon Purchase Agreement with GATX India, a subsidiary of US-based GATX Corporation, for the supply of the specialised freight rakes.
The order is aligned with the Indian Railways’ Wagon Leasing Scheme, under which private players can lease and operate rolling stock on the Indian Railways network. GATX India is a private owner and lessor of freight rail wagons in the country.
The contract comes as private wagon leasing gains a larger role in India’s freight rail network. Leasing companies procure specialised rolling stock to serve freight transportation requirements without relying solely on traditional railway procurement channels.
Jupiter Wagons Managing Director Vivek Lohia said the agreement reflects the confidence of global players in the company’s engineering and delivery capabilities. He also pointed to rising demand for specialised wagons as leasing companies expand their presence on the Indian Railways network.
For Jupiter Wagons, the GATX agreement adds to its business with private wagon leasing companies and provides another order for its specialised freight wagon manufacturing operations.
The company’s portfolio covers freight wagons and other railway and mobility products, serving both Indian and international customers. The new contract further adds to its ongoing order activity in the freight rolling stock segment.
