Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL) has secured private-sector business worth over ₹324 crore, including GST, from GATX India Private Limited and Chetak International Private Limited for the manufacture and supply of its new-design ACT2 automobile carrier wagons. The combined business covers 15 rakes comprising 405 wagons.

GATX India, a rail-leasing company, has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to Jupiter Wagons for 10 rakes of ACT2 wagons, comprising 270 units. The LoI is valued at ₹214.94 crore. Separately, Chetak International has placed an order for five rakes, comprising 135 wagons, valued at ₹109.10 crore. The GATX engagement is currently at the Letter of Intent stage, while the Chetak contract is an order.

The latest business adds to Jupiter Wagons’ presence among private wagon-leasing and logistics operators and comes alongside its ongoing business with Indian Railways. The company recently secured an order worth ₹1,140 crore from the Ministry of Railways for the manufacture and supply of 2,583 wagons.

Commenting on the development, Vivek Lohia, Managing Director, Jupiter Wagons Limited, said the orders reflect the confidence private wagon-leasing and logistics operators have in the company’s ACT2 platform and its ability to deliver at scale. He added that the shift towards greater freight movement by rail is generating demand across both Indian Railways and the private sector. A balanced order book across government and private customers, he said, provides the company with better business visibility and a strong foundation for growth.

Jupiter Wagons manufactures freight wagons, locomotives, commercial vehicle load bodies, ISO marine containers and railway components. The company operates 14 manufacturing facilities across India and is focusing on expanding its manufacturing and execution capabilities to meet demand for rolling stock across the rail freight and logistics sectors.
