JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Nabanna, the state secretariat in Kolkata, on Wednesday to discuss the group’s investment plans across power, power systems, ports, cement and steel. Jindal said the meeting was very good and that several matters concerning the group’s presence in the state were discussed.

JSW Group’s proposed investment in West Bengal is estimated at ₹50,000 crore. Of this, around ₹40,000 crore is earmarked for the power sector, while the remaining ₹10,000 crore is planned for other business areas. The meeting was Jindal’s first with Adhikari since he took charge as Chief Minister.

Following the meeting, Adhikari said Jindal had committed to performing the bhoomipujan for the second unit of the group’s power plant in the first week of January 2027. JSW Energy began work on a 1,600 MW thermal power plant at Salboni in West Midnapore district in April 2025. The project involves an investment of ₹16,000 crore and is the largest greenfield power project in JSW Energy’s portfolio.

The foundation stone for the power project was laid by then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Alongside the plant, JSW Group had also announced the development of an industrial park at Salboni, featuring plug-and-play infrastructure.

The latest discussions indicate the group’s plans to expand its investments in West Bengal across several core infrastructure and industrial sectors, with power generation remaining a major part of its proposed investment programme.
