Jindal Stainless Deploys 10 Electric Trucks for Finished Goods Transportation

Jindal Stainless has deployed 10 electric trucks for finished goods transportation for the first time, expanding its efforts to reduce emissions from logistics operations. The trucks will operate on routes connecting the company’s Jajpur plant in Odisha with Kharagpur and Kolkata in West Bengal.

The deployment is part of the company’s phased transition towards electric and alternative-fuel vehicles across its transportation network. Alongside electric mobility, Jindal Stainless is expanding the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles to reduce its dependence on diesel-powered transportation.

The company currently operates 80 LNG trucks to transport finished goods from its Jajpur and Hisar facilities to western India. It has also begun deploying CNG trucks to transport imported cargo from Dhamra port to Jajpur. In addition, 60 CNG buses have been deployed for employee transportation at its Hisar and Jajpur facilities.

Commenting on the initiative, Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, said the company’s decarbonisation efforts extend beyond manufacturing facilities to its entire value chain, including product transportation. He added that the company would continue adopting practical and scalable solutions to lower its environmental footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.

Together, the company’s electric and alternative-fuel transportation initiatives are expected to facilitate the movement of approximately 8,000–10,000 tonnes of cargo per month. Jindal Stainless plans to expand these solutions progressively across suitable logistics routes, depending on the operational requirements of individual transportation corridors.

Based on a modelled monthly green dispatch volume of 8,000–9,000 tonnes and an equivalent truck travel distance of approximately 2.4 lakh km, the combined fleet of electric, CNG and LNG vehicles is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 71 tonnes per month. This represents an estimated 26% reduction compared with diesel-based transportation under regular operating conditions.

The green mobility programme complements the company’s wider environmental initiatives, which include improving energy efficiency, increasing renewable energy use and strengthening resource circularity across its operations.

Jindal Stainless reported an annual turnover of ₹42,955 crore in FY2025–26 and an annual stainless steel melt capacity of 4.2 million tonnes. The company operates 16 stainless steel manufacturing and processing facilities in India and overseas, including Spain and Indonesia.
