Indian Railways has approved the introduction of a second direct superfast train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai, marking the first such addition in nearly three decades. The move aims to enhance connectivity between two of India’s most prominent metropolitan cities, significantly easing passenger congestion on the existing route.
According to railway officials, the new service is expected to operate via the existing electrified route, ensuring faster travel time and improved efficiency. The train will cater to the growing demand from both business and leisure travelers who frequently commute between Karnataka and Maharashtra.
This initiative forms part of Indian Railways’ broader plan to upgrade intercity travel with more direct and time-efficient services across key economic corridors. The new Bengaluru–Mumbai superfast express will also help decongest current long-distance trains, providing passengers with more flexible travel options.
Final details regarding the schedule, stops, and inaugural date are expected to be announced soon by the South Western Railway Zone. The addition of this new service symbolizes Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to strengthen inter-state connectivity and modernize passenger experience across the country.
