The Ministry of Railways has approved a significant infrastructure investment of ₹1,156 crore to accelerate capacity expansion and connectivity enhancements in key regions, with major project clearances across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
The package comprises multiple track works, station redevelopment plans, and infrastructure strengthening initiatives designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance passenger amenities and expand freight movement capacity on high-density corridors.
In Uttar Pradesh, approved works include doubling and gauge conversion of key rail sections, signalling upgrades, and related bridge and track strengthening projects. Officials said these investments aim to reduce congestion on existing routes, improve punctuality and support the state’s growing demand for both passenger and freight services.
In Rajasthan, the focus will be on augmenting rail capacity on strategic stretches connecting industrial and commercial hubs. Projects in the state involve infrastructure modernisation, expansion of loop lines and yard facilities, and safety enhancement works to optimise train operations and logistics throughput.
Madhya Pradesh is set to benefit from upgrades that include rail track rehabilitation, station facility enhancements and new signalling systems. These improvements are expected to elevate the overall passenger experience and facilitate smoother freight movement, particularly on routes that serve agro-industrial and mineral traffic.
The investment push is part of Indian Railways’ continued strategy to improve network efficiency and support economic growth by addressing infrastructure bottlenecks and capacity constraints. By focusing on targeted expansions across three major states, the railways aim to better handle rising traffic volumes and enhance the resilience of the rail network.
Officials indicated that detailed project planning and tendering processes will commence shortly, with execution phases scheduled to roll out over the next few years. Emphasis will be placed on minimising disruptions to existing services during construction, while ensuring timely delivery of the infrastructure enhancements.
The newly sanctioned projects are also expected to generate employment opportunities, improve regional connectivity and contribute to broader efforts to modernise the nation’s railway infrastructure as part of long-term development goals.
