India inaugurates Safran Aircraft Engine Services India, a ₹1,300 crore OEM-backed MRO facility in Hyderabad, boosting engine maintenance capacity and strengthening the country’s aviation ecosystem.

India’s aviation sector marked a major milestone with the inauguration of Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI), the country’s first global original-equipment-manufacturer (OEM) backed engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually opened the advanced centre, which is dedicated to servicing the widely used LEAP family of aircraft engines. Located at Hyderabad’s GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park, the facility spans 45,000 square metres and has been developed with an investment of over ₹1,300 crore. Once fully scaled by 2035, it will be capable of overhauling up to 300 engines annually and generating more than 1,000 skilled jobs.

The new MRO hub is expected to significantly reduce overseas maintenance dependence for Indian carriers, cut turnaround times, and strengthen India’s position as an emerging aviation services hub. It also supports the government’s broader aim to boost domestic aerospace capabilities and attract global manufacturing and engineering investments to the country.
