Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that India has emerged as the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market, reflecting the rapid growth of the country’s civil aviation sector and the increasing demand for air travel.

Speaking at an aviation industry event in the national capital, Gupta highlighted the significant transformation witnessed in India’s aviation ecosystem over the past decade. She noted that expanding airport infrastructure, improved regional connectivity, and rising passenger traffic have contributed to the sector’s remarkable growth.

The Chief Minister said India’s aviation network has expanded substantially, connecting more cities and regions through enhanced air services. Initiatives such as regional connectivity schemes and investments in airport development have helped make air travel more accessible to a larger section of the population.

She also pointed to the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen aviation infrastructure through the development of new airports and the modernization of existing facilities. These projects are expected to support future passenger growth and improve connectivity across the country.

India’s aviation sector has witnessed sustained growth in domestic passenger traffic, supported by rising incomes, increasing urbanisation, expanding airline networks, and growing demand for business and leisure travel. The country has become one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally, with airlines continuing to add capacity and new routes.

Gupta said the aviation industry’s growth is contributing significantly to economic development by facilitating trade, tourism, investment, and employment generation. She emphasized that continued infrastructure investments and policy support will be crucial in maintaining the sector’s growth momentum.

With passenger numbers continuing to rise and several airport projects under development, India is expected to further strengthen its position among the world’s leading aviation markets in the coming years.
