The Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor, one of Pune’s most significant urban transport projects, is progressing as scheduled and is expected to be commissioned in August 2026, according to Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL).

The metro line is being developed to improve connectivity between Pune’s central areas and the Hinjewadi IT hub, which houses numerous technology companies and attracts thousands of daily commuters. Once operational, the corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion on one of the city’s busiest routes.

Project authorities have indicated that civil construction work has largely been completed, while track laying, systems integration, station finishing works, and testing activities are advancing across various sections of the corridor. Preparations are also underway for statutory inspections and safety clearances required before commercial operations can begin.

The corridor is being developed under a public-private partnership model and spans approximately 23 kilometres, connecting key locations such as Shivajinagar, Balewadi, Wakad, and Hinjewadi. The route is expected to provide seamless access to major residential, commercial, educational, and employment centres across western Pune.

Officials stated that trial runs and system testing activities have shown encouraging progress, keeping the project on course for its targeted commissioning timeline. Once operational, the metro line is expected to serve a substantial number of daily passengers and improve public transport accessibility for employees working in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park and surrounding areas.

The project is also expected to support Pune’s broader urban mobility goals by encouraging a shift from private vehicles to public transport, thereby helping reduce road congestion, fuel consumption, and vehicular emissions.

With commissioning targeted for August, the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro is set to become a key component of Pune’s expanding metro network and is expected to play a major role in strengthening connectivity between the city’s technology corridor and central business districts.
