Himachal Pradesh is set to establish the state’s first ozone-based drinking water treatment project in the Dehra area of Kangra district, with the state government allocating ₹46 crore for the initiative. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the project while addressing a gathering at Baddal Thor in the Dehra Assembly constituency.

The project will use ozone gas to disinfect drinking water and improve its taste, introducing an alternative water-treatment technology in the state. According to the Chief Minister, the initiative is being taken up to provide clean drinking water to people in the region.

The state government also plans to extend the programme to other areas after the implementation of the project in Dehra. The initiative is expected to strengthen drinking-water treatment infrastructure and support the supply of treated water to communities in Kangra and subsequently other parts of Himachal Pradesh.

The project assumes significance as Himachal Pradesh continues to strengthen its water-supply infrastructure and introduce improved treatment systems. The use of ozone for disinfection is intended to enhance the treatment process while also addressing the taste of treated drinking water.

Speaking at the event, Sukhu also said the government was committed to ensuring adequate funding for development works in Dehra and assured that there would be no shortage of funds for development in the constituency.

The ₹46-crore initiative marks a step towards introducing advanced water-treatment technology in Himachal Pradesh. With the project planned for expansion to other areas, the state is looking to build on the Dehra initiative as part of its efforts to strengthen drinking-water infrastructure.
