Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has laid the foundation stones for 15 Public Works Department (PWD) road projects worth approximately ₹175 crore in Chamba district, giving a major boost to rural connectivity and transport infrastructure in the region. The projects will be executed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV) and NABARD funding programmes.
The proposed road works include the construction of the Drabla, Samotha, Fatehpur, Nanan, Seru, Chhatargram, Ghater, Chanjun, Rundega, Basdan, Mangla–Ohi–Bhadari–Kapara, Mankot, Malouna–Kaltana, Rajera–Balli and Kariyan–Baijri link roads. These projects are expected to improve access to remote villages, strengthen rural mobility and facilitate easier movement of people, agricultural produce and essential services across the district.
During the programme held at Chamba’s historic Chougan, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed 200-bed Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital building, aimed at expanding healthcare facilities for residents of Chamba, Bharmour, Pangi, Churah, Salooni and adjoining areas. He said the enhanced medical infrastructure would significantly reduce the need for patients to seek treatment outside the district.
Sukhu stated that infrastructure development remains a priority for the state government and announced that road projects worth nearly ₹591 crore are expected to commence in Chamba over the next few months. He also laid the foundation stone for a ₹32-crore parking facility, highlighting the government’s continued focus on improving civic amenities and transport infrastructure in the region.
