The much-anticipated Gorakhpur–Panipat Expressway project is expected to begin construction in 2026, marking a major milestone in improving regional trade and transport between Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Once completed, the expressway will provide a high-speed corridor connecting eastern and northern parts of the country, significantly cutting travel time and logistics costs. The proposed expressway will pass through several key districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Ayodhya, and Lucknow, before linking with Panipat in Haryana. This strategic route will not only strengthen inter-state commerce but also enhance connectivity to industrial hubs and agricultural markets along its alignment.

Officials noted that land acquisition and detailed project reports (DPR) are currently in advanced stages. The project will be developed in multiple phases, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) expected to oversee its execution.

The Gorakhpur–Panipat Expressway is part of India’s broader effort to modernize its road infrastructure under the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme. Once operational, it is expected to reduce travel time between eastern Uttar Pradesh and Haryana by nearly 40%, while providing a seamless link to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and other major national corridors. By facilitating faster freight movement and improved access to ports and industrial zones, the expressway is poised to play a crucial role in boosting trade, tourism, and regional economic growth across northern India.
