Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has become the first among India’s major ports to cross the 50 million metric tonnes (MMT) cargo handling mark in FY 2026–27, achieving the milestone on July 16—19 days earlier than in the previous financial year, when it reached the same level on August 3. The achievement makes DPA the fastest major port in the country to touch the 50 MMT mark this fiscal.

Announcing the milestone, DPA said the performance reflects the port’s sustained operational efficiency and strong cargo growth during the current financial year. The authority attributed the achievement to coordinated efforts by the entire port ecosystem, including exporters, importers, shipping lines, terminal operators, customs authorities, stevedores, transporters and employees.

Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh congratulated all stakeholders for their contribution, saying the port’s ability to reach the milestone well ahead of last year demonstrates its commitment to operational excellence and customer-focused services. He noted that the collective efforts of the port community have enabled DPA to maintain its growth momentum despite evolving trade and logistics challenges.

DPA has been focusing on improving cargo handling efficiency through infrastructure augmentation, digital initiatives and streamlined port operations. These measures have helped reduce turnaround time, improve logistics performance and strengthen the port’s competitiveness among India’s major ports.

As the cargo volumes continuing to grow, the port authority expects to maintain the momentum in the coming months as it works towards achieving higher annual throughput. The latest milestone further reinforces Deendayal Port’s position as one of the country’s leading maritime gateways, handling a diverse mix of dry bulk, liquid bulk, breakbulk and container cargo.
