Railway bridge infrastructure development project in Srikakulam district approved by the central government
Centre sanctions ₹3,300 crore for railway bridge projects in Srikakulam to improve safety and connectivity.

The central government has approved an investment of around ₹3,300 crore for the construction of multiple railway bridge projects in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, aimed at improving safety and easing traffic congestion.

The sanctioned plan includes the development of road overbridges and related structures to replace existing level crossings across the district. In total, about 50+ locations have been identified where bridges will be constructed to eliminate railway gates and ensure uninterrupted movement of both rail and road traffic.

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce waiting times at railway crossings, which have long been a major bottleneck for commuters and freight movement in the region. By removing level crossings, the projects will also enhance safety by minimising the risk of accidents.

The officials indicated that the works will be implemented in phases, with detailed project reports already prepared for several locations. The construction is targeted to be completed within a defined timeline, with a focus on faster execution and minimal disruption to existing traffic.

Apart from easing congestion, the development is expected to support the expansion of railway infrastructure in the region, including facilitating smoother operations for additional rail lines and higher-speed train movement.

The projects form part of a broader effort by the Centre to modernise railway infrastructure and improve last-mile connectivity in key districts. Once completed, the bridges are expected to enhance mobility, strengthen logistics efficiency, and contribute to overall regional development in northern Andhra Pradesh.
