Centre Approves ₹1,359 Crore Four-Laning of Nagaur–Bikaner Section of NH-62 in Rajasthan

The Centre has approved the four-laning of the Nagaur–Bikaner section of National Highway-62 in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of ₹1,359 crore, providing a major boost to road connectivity in the state’s western region. The project will be developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

The approved project covers the highway corridor connecting Nagaur and Bikaner, an important route that serves passenger traffic, freight movement, agricultural transport, and tourism activities across the region. The upgradation is expected to enhance capacity on the existing highway and facilitate smoother movement of vehicles.

The Nagaur–Bikaner stretch forms a key link in Rajasthan’s road network and provides connectivity to several towns and economic centres. The four-laning project is expected to improve travel efficiency, reduce congestion, and strengthen regional connectivity.

The corridor is also significant for pilgrims and tourists travelling to major destinations in the region, including the renowned Karni Mata Temple near Bikaner. Improved highway infrastructure is expected to make travel on this route safer and more convenient.

The project is part of the government’s broader efforts to expand and modernise national highway infrastructure across the country through public-private partnership models. The BOT framework is expected to facilitate private sector participation in the development, operation, and maintenance of the corridor.

An investment of ₹1,359 crore, the project is expected to generate economic activity during the construction phase while supporting long-term growth by improving connectivity between Nagaur, Bikaner, and surrounding areas. The highway upgrade will also strengthen logistics and transportation infrastructure in western Rajasthan.

The approval marks another addition to Rajasthan’s expanding highway network, which has seen significant investment in recent years aimed at improving connectivity, supporting trade, and facilitating regional development.
