The Centre has appointed Prashant Jeevan Patil, a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Telangana cadre, as Deputy Director General (Director level) in the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The appointment has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme following the approval of the Competent Authority.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Patil will hold the post for a period of five years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The Telangana government has been directed to relieve the officer immediately so that he can take up his new assignment in Mumbai without delay.
Patil is currently serving in the Telangana government and will now move to the Directorate General of Shipping, the country’s apex maritime regulatory body responsible for implementing shipping laws, regulating merchant shipping, ensuring maritime safety and promoting the development of India’s shipping sector. In his new role, he is expected to contribute to policy implementation and administrative functions related to ports, shipping and maritime governance.
The appointment was announced along with other senior-level postings approved by the Centre under the Central Staffing Scheme. The latest move comes as the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways continues to advance initiatives aimed at strengthening maritime infrastructure, improving ease of doing business in the shipping sector and enhancing India’s position in global maritime trade.
