An Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ) unit is set to award a major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth around $1.75 billion for the expansion of the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala.
The contract for Phase II of the deep-water transshipment port is expected to be awarded to a group company, covering large-scale civil works, marine structures, and capacity augmentation required for the next stage of development.
The expansion will significantly increase the port’s handling capacity and strengthen its position as a key international transshipment hub. Phase II will include construction of additional berths, breakwaters, container handling infrastructure, and related port facilities to support higher vessel traffic and cargo volumes.
Vizhinjam port, being developed under a public-private partnership model, has already commenced operations and is being positioned as India’s first major deep-water transshipment terminal capable of handling ultra-large container vessels.
The Phase II expansion is aimed at accelerating capacity build-up, improving operational efficiency, and supporting India’s long-term maritime trade and logistics objectives.
