Tata Motors has marked a major milestone in India’s commercial vehicle industry with the launch of 17 next-generation trucks, ranging from 7 tonnes to 55 tonnes, aimed at redefining standards of safety, efficiency, and long-term profitability. The expansive portfolio includes the all-new Azura series, the advanced Tata Trucks.ev electric range, and upgraded versions of the Prima, Signa, and Ultra platforms.
The launch was led by Mr. Girish Wagh, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Motors Ltd, along with Mr. Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, and Mr. Aniruddha Kulkarni, Head – Engineering. Designed to comply with stringent ECE R29.03 global crash safety norms, the new range focuses on maximising transporter earnings, reducing total cost of ownership, and improving vehicle uptime.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Girish Wagh highlighted the rapid evolution of India’s logistics ecosystem, driven by modern infrastructure, policy reforms, and growing demand for safer and cleaner transportation. He noted that Tata Motors continues to shape the future of trucking through innovation, localisation, and customer-centric solutions. The next-generation portfolio integrates advanced powertrains, India’s widest electric truck range built on the new J-MOEV architecture, upgraded European-standard cabins, industry-leading safety systems, improved payload capacity, higher fuel efficiency, and seamless digital integration through Fleet Edge. Together, these advancements reflect the company’s ‘Better Always’ philosophy and align with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Azura Range: A New Benchmark in the ILMCV Segment
Tata Motors introduced the Azura range, purpose-built for the intermediate and light commercial vehicle (ILMCV) segment. Designed to deliver higher productivity, improved comfort, and maximum uptime, Azura combines functional design with driver-centric ergonomics to reduce fatigue and enhance operational efficiency.
Powered by a new 3.6-litre diesel engine, the Azura range offers best-in-class performance and fuel efficiency. Available in 7 to 19-tonne configurations, these trucks are suited for diverse applications including e-commerce, FMCG distribution, white goods transportation, construction materials, agricultural produce, industrial cargo, and regional or medium-haul logistics.
Raising the Bar on Road Safety
Tata Motors has comprehensively upgraded its entire truck lineup including Prima, Signa, Ultra, and Azura to meet ECE R29.03 global crash safety standards. The cabins are engineered to withstand frontal, side-impact, and rollover scenarios. The trucks are also equipped with up to 23 India-specific advanced active safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and collision mitigation systems.
Safety is further enhanced through Fleet Edge, Tata Motors’ connected vehicle platform, which enables real-time monitoring of driving behaviour. With this initiative, Tata Motors becomes the only Indian manufacturer to elevate its truck portfolio to this globally recognised safety benchmark.
Enhancing Profitability Through Higher Payload and Efficiency
The upgraded truck range is engineered to improve transporter profitability by lowering operating costs and increasing asset utilisation. Payload capacity has been increased by up to 1.8 tonnes, while powertrain enhancements including the advanced 6.7-litre Cummins diesel engine deliver up to 7 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.
Supporting these engineering upgrades is a digitally enabled ecosystem, including Fleet Edge Priority, which offers real-time vehicle health monitoring, predictive maintenance insights, and intelligent trip optimisation tools. These capabilities help fleets achieve higher uptime, fuel savings, and improved return on investment.
Tata Trucks.ev: Accelerating the Electric Trucking Revolution
Strengthening its commitment to green mobility, Tata Motors introduced a comprehensive electric truck portfolio under the Tata Trucks.ev brand. Spanning 7 to 55 tonnes, the range is built on the new J-MOEV (Intelligent Modular Electric Vehicle) Architecture and is designed for applications across e-commerce, construction, ports, and mining.
The Ultra EV range, available in 7, 9, and 12-tonne variants, offers zero-emission solutions for urban and regional logistics. In the heavy-duty segment, the Prima E.55S prime mover, delivering 470 kW power with a 453 kWh battery, sets new benchmarks for performance and operating efficiency. The Prima E.28K electric tipper adds robust capability for mining and construction operations, enabling faster cycles and complete decarbonisation.
