WABAG Secures ₹1,000 Crore-Plus Order from RIL for Jamnagar Desalination Project

VA TECH WABAG Limited has secured a ‘Mega’ order worth more than ₹1,000 crore from Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to design and deliver a desalination plant and a remineralisation plant at Jamnagar, Gujarat. The contract covers design, engineering, supply, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning and performance guarantee testing of both facilities.

The desalination plant will initially have a capacity of 8,400 cubic metres per hour, with provision for expansion to 12,600 cubic metres per hour, equivalent to approximately 302 million litres per day (MLD). The accompanying remineralisation plant will have a capacity of 3,000 cubic metres per hour. The project is scheduled for execution in phases over 25 months.

The desalination facility will incorporate multiple treatment stages, including lamella clarifiers, dissolved air flotation filters and an ultrafiltration system, supported by chemical dosing and backwash infrastructure. These processes will be followed by seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) and brackish water reverse osmosis (BWRO) systems. The scope also includes treated-water storage and brine outfall pumping systems.

The remineralisation facility will use a limestone-based process, incorporating limestone filters, lime-handling equipment, carbon dioxide storage and dosing systems, along with water storage and pumping infrastructure.

S. Natrajan, Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing at WABAG, said the order reflects RIL’s confidence in the company’s technology and execution capabilities. He added that the project strengthens WABAG’s position in the desalination market and its ability to deliver large-scale water infrastructure projects.

The order adds to WABAG’s ongoing work for Reliance Industries at Jamnagar, where the company has previously secured contracts for desalination and industrial water-treatment facilities.
