A dry bulk transshipment port is designed to handle bulk commodities such as coal, iron ore, fertiliser, grains and other loose cargo that are typically transferred between vessels or to shore-based distribution systems without the need for containerisation. Transshipment hubs can help optimise cargo flows, reduce vessel turnaround times and strengthen a country’s role in regional maritime trade.
Officials said the assignment comes amid growing interest in strengthening India’s port infrastructure and expanding capacity for handling specialised cargo segments. A transshipment facility at Atlanta Bay, if found viable and developed, could complement existing port networks and improve connectivity for importers and exporters of dry bulk goods.
Voyants Solutions is expected to prepare a comprehensive report on technical feasibility, financial projections, implementation challenges, regulatory requirements and stakeholder engagement needs. The study will support decision-making by authorities and potential investors on whether to proceed with project implementation.
The engagement reflects a broader emphasis on enhancing India’s port and shipping infrastructure to meet rising trade volumes and diversify cargo handling capabilities.
