Virar–Dahanu Road Rail Quadruplication Project Reaches Major Milestone With 85% Earthwork Completed

Construction progress on Virar–Dahanu Road rail quadruplication project – 85% earthwork completed
Earthwork reaches 85% completion on the Virar–Dahanu Road rail expansion, boosting future train capacity and connectivity.

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad rail corridor has moved a step closer to easing congestion, as the Virar–Dahanu Road rail quadruplication project has achieved 85 per cent completion of earthwork. The project is expected to significantly boost suburban and long-distance train capacity along the busy Western Railway stretch.

According to officials, steady progress has been made on track laying, bridge construction, and related civil works. The quadruplication project, once complete, will add two new rail lines to the existing two, enabling faster movement of passenger as well as freight trains.

The initiative forms part of Western Railway’s capacity expansion programme, aimed at addressing growing traffic demand and reducing delays in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The project is currently on track to be completed by the end of financial year 2026–27, with major civil work milestones expected to be finished over the next two years.

Once operational, the new lines are likely to enhance punctuality, provide better connectivity for daily commuters, and strengthen regional rail infrastructure between Virar and Dahanu Road.
