The Uttar Pradesh government has approved ₹56.86 crore for the renovation and upgradation of 387 rural roads spread across four constituencies in the Prayagraj region, officials said. The move aims to improve connectivity, enhance rural mobility and support agricultural and economic activities in the area.
The funding clearance follows detailed assessments of road conditions and prioritisation of rural transport infrastructure needs within the constituencies. The renovation work will focus on strengthening existing road surfaces, improving drainage, stabilising weak sections, and enhancing overall road durability to ensure all-season usability.
Officials said the project is expected to benefit residents, farmers and local businesses by reducing travel times, improving access to markets, educational institutions and healthcare facilities, and facilitating smoother movement of goods and services in rural hinterlands.
The renovation initiative forms part of broader efforts by the state government to upgrade rural connectivity and support socio-economic development across districts. Under various road infrastructure programmes, rural roads are being targeted for quality improvements to reduce transport bottlenecks and improve safety for commuters.
Contractors and road agencies engaged for the project will be required to complete the works within stipulated timelines while adhering to quality and safety standards. Monitoring mechanisms are expected to be put in place to ensure timely execution and proper utilisation of allocated funds.
Local representatives welcomed the approval, noting that improved road infrastructure will generate direct employment opportunities during implementation and contribute to long-term economic upliftment of villages and small towns within the constituencies.
With the funding now released, authorities will initiate tendering and project mobilisation activities, setting the stage for work to commence on the identified rural routes in the coming weeks.
