UP Govt approves ₹939.67 crore Chitrakoot Link Expressway—15.17 km high-speed corridor to boost connectivity, tourism, and economic growth in Bundelkhand region.

In a move aimed at improving regional connectivity and unlocking the economic potential of southern Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath-led state government has approved the construction of the Chitrakoot Link Expressway. The project, estimated to cost ₹939.67 crore, received cabinet approval on July 22, 2025, and will be executed under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model.

The 15.17-kilometre expressway will serve as a vital connector between Bharatkoop on National Highway 35/76 and Ahmadganj on NH-135BG near the Uttar Pradesh–Madhya Pradesh border. Designed as a four-lane access-controlled highway, it will be expandable to six lanes and engineered to accommodate speeds up to 120 km/h, ensuring smooth and efficient vehicular movement.

Beyond its strategic design, the expressway will incorporate significant structural components including one major bridge, four minor bridges, a flyover, 17 underpasses, and 23 culverts. Safety and service provisions such as crash barriers, fencing, and service roads are also part of the blueprint, reflecting a comprehensive infrastructure approach.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) will oversee the project, with land acquisition set to begin soon. The construction timeline has been fixed at 548 days from the date of contract award, targeting completion by early 2027.

Once completed, the Chitrakoot Link Expressway will provide a direct and high-speed connection from the Bundelkhand Expressway to the sacred town of Chitrakoot, significantly enhancing access for pilgrims, tourists, and commercial vehicles alike. It is also expected to spur development along the corridor, fostering local economic growth and improving transportation efficiency in the region.

The project is part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader vision to develop world-class expressway infrastructure across the state and strengthen its role as a national leader in road connectivity. With this new link, Chitrakoot is poised to gain not just faster access, but also greater prominence in the state’s growth story.
