The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has taken a key step forward in the development of Lucknow Metro’s second corridor (Blue Line) by issuing a construction tender valued at Rs 492.22 crore. The tender marks significant progress in expanding the city’s urban rail network.
According to the tender details, the contract involves the design and construction of an elevated viaduct stretching approximately 4.6 kilometres between Thakurganj and Vasantkunj. As part of the package, five elevated metro stations like Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh, and Vasantkunj will be built, strengthening connectivity along the corridor. The scope of work also includes the construction of a 740-metre ramp to connect the line with the metro depot.
Beyond core civil construction, the project covers a wide range of associated works. These include architectural finishes, pre-engineered structures, water supply and drainage systems, fire-fighting infrastructure, and complete electrical and mechanical installations, ensuring full operational readiness of the stations and viaduct.
UPMRC has stipulated a 30-month completion period from the date of commencement, underlining the agency’s intention to maintain a fast-paced execution schedule. To facilitate bidder participation, a virtual pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for 12 January, while the opening of technical bids is planned for 3 February.
The eligibility criteria require bidders to demonstrate robust financial strength along with proven experience in executing large-scale metro rail or viaduct projects over the last seven years. In line with national procurement guidelines, the tender incorporates ‘Make in India’ provisions, requiring disclosure of local content and granting preference to Class-I local suppliers. It also includes clauses related to security restrictions for bidders from countries sharing land borders with India.
Once completed, the 11.165-kilometre Blue Line corridor, which will include a combination of elevated and underground sections, is expected to significantly improve urban mobility, particularly across heritage precincts and expanding residential areas of Lucknow. The entire second corridor project carries an estimated investment of Rs 5,801 crore and is targeted for completion within a five-year timeframe.
