In a landmark decision, the Union Cabinet has approved the ₹8,146 crore Tato-II Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh’s border district of Shi Yomi. This ambitious renewable energy project will harness the region’s abundant hydropower potential, contributing significantly to India’s clean energy capacity and climate goals.
The Tato-II project will produce substantial renewable electricity, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and reinforcing India’s commitment to sustainability. Beyond environmental benefits, it is poised to generate direct and indirect employment, boost local businesses, and improve infrastructure in one of the most remote and strategically important areas of the country.
Strategically located near the international border, the project will enhance regional energy security, power civilian and essential infrastructure, and improve connectivity to remote villages. It aligns with the government’s vision to make Arunachal Pradesh a hydropower hub, turning the Northeast into a key contributor to the nation’s green energy transition.
Once operational, the Tato-II Hydroelectric Project will stand as a cornerstone of clean energy generation in Northeast India, promoting sustainable growth, regional stability, and long-term energy independence.
