Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS) completes Kerala’s first six-lane national highway stretch between Thalappady and Chengala — a milestone recognised with the Union Government’s Highway Excellence Award.

The Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS) has achieved a major milestone by completing Kerala’s first six-lane national highway stretch, becoming the first contractor in the state to do so. The completed section runs from Thalappady to Chengala and was part of an ₹18 billion infrastructure project.

Construction began in December 2021, and by June 2025, the project was 99% complete. ULCCS’s execution was recognised with the Union Government’s Highway Excellence Award, highlighting its high standards in project delivery.

To minimise inconvenience to the public, ULCCS maintained continuous communication with local residents and addressed concerns during construction. The project features extensive infrastructure, including 30 viaducts, 4 major and 4 minor bridges, 9 underpasses, and 3 pedestrian overbridges. A standout element is Kerala’s tallest and widest single-pier flyover, measuring 27 metres wide and 1.12 kilometres long.

The project also includes 35 kilometres of service roads on both sides, 78 kilometres of drainage systems and retaining walls, and round-the-clock safety surveillance, reflecting ULCCS’s commitment to both quality and safety.

This achievement not only enhances connectivity in the region but also sets a new benchmark in highway construction in Kerala.
