Tamil Nadu Signs ₹18,600 Crore MoU with Larsen & Toubro for Data Centre and Shipbuilding Projects

Tamil Nadu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ₹18,600 crore with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the development of data centre parks and shipbuilding projects in the state, further strengthening its position as a major industrial and technology investment destination.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin. Under the agreement, L&T will invest approximately ₹10,000 crore in the establishment of data centre parks and around ₹8,600 crore in shipbuilding and related maritime infrastructure projects.

According to state government officials, the proposed investments are expected to generate significant employment opportunities and attract ancillary industries, while enhancing Tamil Nadu’s capabilities in both digital infrastructure and maritime manufacturing.

The data centre investments will support the increasing demand for cloud services, artificial intelligence applications, digital storage, and enterprise data processing. The projects are expected to strengthen the state’s growing role in India’s digital economy and support future technology-driven investments.

The shipbuilding investment will be undertaken through L&T’s shipbuilding business and is aimed at expanding manufacturing capacity, strengthening domestic shipbuilding capabilities, and supporting the growth of India’s maritime sector.

Officials stated that the projects align with Tamil Nadu’s strategy of attracting high-value investments in emerging sectors while leveraging the state’s strong industrial base, skilled workforce, port infrastructure, and connectivity advantages.

The state government noted that the investments will contribute to economic growth, industrial diversification, technology development, and job creation while supporting Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become a trillion-dollar economy.

L&T’s proposed investments add to a series of large-scale projects announced in Tamil Nadu across sectors such as electronics, renewable energy, semiconductors, electric vehicles, logistics, and advanced manufacturing.

Industry observers believe the twin investments in data centres and shipbuilding will further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as one of India’s leading destinations for infrastructure, technology, and manufacturing investments while contributing to the country’s broader industrial and digital development goals.
