SAIL posts best-ever December sales at 2.1 MT, up 37%

SAIL reports record December steel sales of 2.1 million tonnes, up 37% compared to last year
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) posts its highest-ever December sales of 2.1 MT, driven by strong domestic demand, exports, and improved customer deliveries.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) on Monday reported its highest ever sales performance for the month of December, registering 2.1 million tonnes (MT) of steel sold, marking a 37 % increase compared with 1.5 MT in December 2024, the company said in an official statement.
The Maharatna public sector steel producer said this was its strongest December performance on record, with sales rising across multiple product categories and distribution channels while inventory levels were significantly reduced. A sharp focus on timely customer deliveries and strengthened branding and market outreach efforts supported the improvement.

The robust monthly results also helped SAIL sustain its growth trajectory for the current fiscal year 2025–26. Cumulative sales volumes from April to December 2025 reached 14.7 MT, up 17 % from 12.6 MT in the same period of the previous year, the company said.

In addition to strong domestic demand, exports also recorded a notable rise, underscoring the company’s expanding presence in international markets.
Shares of SAIL responded positively to the sales update, rising around 2.34 % to ₹150.85 during trading on Monday.

SAIL officials highlighted that broad-based growth in sales during December was driven by higher volumes in domestic saleable steel, road dispatches and door-delivery channels from warehouses.

The company’s performance also followed a 27 % jump in sales in November, indicating sustained demand and momentum in the second half of the fiscal.
