Rajkot Municipal Corporation Approves ₹470 Crore Infrastructure Projects Ahead of Civic Polls

₹470 crore infrastructure projects approved by Rajkot Municipal Corporation to improve urban mobility and civic services in Rajkot.
The municipal body of Rajkot has approved a ₹470 crore infrastructure package focusing on road connectivity, public facilities, and urban service improvement.

In a significant push to strengthen urban infrastructure and mobility in Gujarat’s industrial city of Rajkot, the Standing Committee of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has approved a series of development projects worth ₹470 crore. The approvals were granted during the committee’s final meeting before the upcoming municipal elections, with a strong focus on improving road connectivity, public services and civic infrastructure across the city.

One of the key projects included in the infrastructure package is the construction of a new road linking Raiya Road with the Smart City area. The proposed corridor is expected to provide an alternate route for commuters and help reduce traffic congestion on several existing arterial roads. With Rajkot experiencing rapid urban expansion and increasing vehicle density, the new road connection is expected to play an important role in easing traffic flow and improving accessibility to developing residential and commercial zones.

Another major component of the development plan involves the widening and strengthening of the New Ring Road, which currently serves as an important transport corridor for freight and heavy vehicles moving around the city. The existing road infrastructure has been facing pressure due to increasing traffic volumes and deteriorating pavement conditions. The planned upgrade is expected to improve road capacity, facilitate smoother freight movement and support industrial logistics in Rajkot’s growing manufacturing clusters.

Apart from road infrastructure improvements, the civic body has also approved projects aimed at enhancing essential public services. These include the construction of new urban health centres in the SRP Camp and Manharpur areas, which are expected to improve access to primary healthcare services for residents living in rapidly expanding neighbourhoods.

The infrastructure package also includes plans for the renovation and modernization of the historic Jubilee vegetable market, an important trading hub in the city. The redevelopment initiative is intended to upgrade market facilities, improve hygiene standards and provide better infrastructure for vendors and customers.

To strengthen the safety and maintenance of transport structures within the city, the municipal corporation has also decided to appoint a consultant responsible for conducting regular inspections of underpasses and overbridges. The initiative aims to ensure structural safety, timely maintenance and improved monitoring of key infrastructure assets.

In addition, the committee has approved the development of a new fire station behind the Aji Dam traffic police station. The facility will include space to accommodate six fire engines along with a workshop and a control room for emergency operations. The project will also include 64 residential units for fire department personnel, providing accommodation and support infrastructure for emergency response teams.

Together, the ₹470-crore infrastructure package reflects the municipal corporation’s efforts to strengthen Rajkot’s urban mobility network, improve public facilities and support the city’s expanding population and industrial economy. The projects are expected to enhance road connectivity, improve civic services and contribute to the overall development of the city’s infrastructure landscape.
