The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared a ₹29.24 crore road safety action plan aimed at reducing fatal accidents and improving safety infrastructure across 106 roads in Prayagraj district. The proposal has been submitted to the state government for approval following a review of road safety requirements in the district.
The proposed interventions are focused on addressing accident-prone locations and improving the overall safety of road users. The plan forms part of efforts to identify infrastructure-related causes of accidents and introduce corrective measures across the identified road network.
The initiative comes amid growing attention to road safety in Uttar Pradesh, where infrastructure improvements are increasingly being combined with enforcement, traffic management and awareness measures. The PWD’s approach is expected to focus on engineering interventions that can reduce conflict points and make roads safer for both through traffic and local commuters.
The proposed investment across 106 roads also highlights the scale of the road safety challenge in a rapidly expanding urban and peri-urban district such as Prayagraj. Improving road geometry, junction conditions and other safety features can help address risks that cannot be effectively managed through enforcement alone.
The project is currently awaiting government approval. Once sanctioned, the identified works will provide the PWD with a dedicated framework for implementing road-safety improvements across the district, with the objective of reducing accident severity and improving the safety performance of Prayagraj’s road network.
