Punjab has completed 17,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), with financial assistance of ₹478.45 crore, out of a total of 36,792 houses sanctioned since 2024-25. Construction of the remaining 19,792 houses is progressing across the state, according to Punjab Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond.
Sond said the progress reflects the state government’s efforts to accelerate rural housing and provide permanent homes to eligible households. The houses completed under the scheme have been supported through financial assistance, while work on the remaining sanctioned units is being expedited.
The state has also received a special package of ₹360 crore for the reconstruction and repair of houses damaged by floods. Under this initiative, around 30,000 flood-affected houses have been targeted, with 28,020 houses already sanctioned and financial assistance for the first and second instalments being transferred directly to eligible beneficiaries.
The development forms part of Punjab’s wider rural housing programme under PMAY-G, which aims to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to eligible houseless rural households and families living in kutcha or dilapidated homes.
