Pune’s Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 is expected to begin passenger operations on November 3, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the corridor virtually. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to attend the launch ceremony in person.
The 23.2-km elevated corridor will connect Hinjewadi’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park with Shivajinagar, linking Pune’s major IT hub with the city centre. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is implementing the project under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
According to officials, 17 of the corridor’s 23 stations have received clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) and are expected to open during the initial phase. Work and approval processes for the remaining stations are continuing.
The corridor is designed to improve public transport connectivity for thousands of professionals travelling daily to Hinjewadi’s IT parks, an area that has long faced traffic congestion. The metro is expected to provide commuters with an alternative to road transport and improve access between the western IT corridor and central Pune.
The project is being developed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, a special-purpose vehicle formed by a joint venture between TRIL Urban Transport Pvt. Ltd. and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH. It is being executed on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis, with a reported project cost of approximately ₹8,313 crore, including land acquisition and utility shifting.
The line has experienced multiple delays against its original completion schedule, primarily due to construction and safety-clearance requirements. Its phased opening will allow passenger services to begin on the approved section while work on the remaining stations continues.
PMRDA is also pursuing improvements to last-mile connectivity around Hinjewadi, including road upgrades and traffic management measures, to help commuters access the metro network.
The November 3 launch is expected to be a key development in Pune’s urban transport infrastructure. The final operational arrangements and the opening schedule for individual stations remain subject to official confirmation.
