Port of Varna Floats €5.3 Million Tender for New Cargo Handling Crane

Bulgaria’s state-owned Port of Varna has invited bids for a new mobile harbour crane at its Varna West terminal, with the tender valued at €5.3 million (approximately $5.9 million). The procurement is part of a wider €7.76 million investment programme aimed at improving cargo handling capacity and upgrading port infrastructure.

The port operator is seeking a mobile crane with a minimum lifting capacity of 100 tonnes and a boom reach of at least 50 metres. The equipment will be used for handling both containers and bulk cargo. As per the tender specifications, the crane must be capable of lifting a 30-tonne container at a radius of 45 metres, with a minimum lifting height of 40 metres.

The crane will primarily operate on electricity supplied from the shore through a cable system, with a diesel engine available as an alternative power source. Remote-control functionality is also included in the technical requirements.

The investment programme extends beyond the crane procurement. It also includes the purchase of two electric terminal tractors and rehabilitation of the railway infrastructure serving berths 16 and 17. These upgrades are intended to improve cargo movement within the port and support its handling operations.

Interested suppliers have until November 16 to submit their bids. The selected supplier will be required to deliver the crane within a maximum period of 14 months from the signing of the contract.
