Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled and initiated infrastructure projects worth over ₹47,000 crore in Assam, covering sectors such as roads, railways, energy and gas infrastructure. The initiatives are part of a major development push aimed at strengthening connectivity, energy security and economic growth across the North-East region.

The projects were launched during the Prime Minister’s two-day visit to Assam, with programmes held across Kokrajhar, Guwahati and Silchar. The infrastructure package includes multiple road development works, railway connectivity improvements and large energy projects designed to modernise the state’s transport and power ecosystem.

A major component of the announcement is the Assam Mala 3.0 programme, a large road infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity across the state and linking remote regions with national highway corridors. The programme is expected to significantly reduce travel time and enhance logistics efficiency across the North-East.

The infrastructure push also includes important railway initiatives, such as the flagging off of three new train services to improve connectivity between Assam and other parts of India. These services are expected to strengthen passenger mobility and regional trade links across the North-East.

In the energy sector, the Prime Minister dedicated key projects including the Kopili Hydro-Electric Project, the capacity expansion of the Numaligarh–Siliguri petroleum product pipeline, and the first phase of the North East Gas Grid, aimed at improving energy infrastructure and strengthening fuel supply networks in the region.

Additional infrastructure initiatives include high-speed road corridors, railway facilities, pipeline infrastructure and urban development projects, which together are expected to accelerate industrial activity and economic growth across Assam and neighbouring states.

The large-scale infrastructure rollout reflects the government’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity, boost energy security and integrate the North-East more closely with India’s national economic network while creating new opportunities for regional development.
