Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth a total of ₹5,450 crore during his upcoming visit to Assam, officials said, underscoring a major push in the state’s development trajectory.

The portfolio of projects spans multiple sectors including digitisation, transportation, urban connectivity and regional development. Among the key initiatives are a new data centre aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure and an airstrip to enhance air connectivity and support regional mobility.

The data centre is expected to bolster data storage, cloud services, and digital services delivery in the northeastern region, catering to both government and private sector needs. The enhanced digital infrastructure is likely to support initiatives in e-governance, local enterprise growth and technology adoption.

The development of the airstrip is anticipated to improve air connectivity within Assam and neighbouring states, facilitating faster movement of passengers and cargo. Officials noted that enhanced aviation infrastructure will play a crucial role in promoting tourism, economic engagement and strategic accessibility in the region.

In addition to these marquee projects, the Prime Minister’s visit will see the launch of multiple urban infrastructure and utility enhancement schemes aimed at strengthening foundational services across cities and towns in Assam. These include upgrades to urban facilities, road networks, public utilities and technology-enabled service platforms that support improved quality of life and economic efficiency.

Government sources said the comprehensive suite of projects reflects continued emphasis on accelerating infrastructure investments in the northeast, bridging connectivity gaps and fostering economic integration with the broader national economy. The initiatives are part of a larger set of development priorities that seek to reduce regional disparities and enhance growth prospects.

The Prime Minister’s engagement in Assam is also likely to reinforce policy support for expanding digital infrastructure, improving logistics and transportation links, and promoting sustainable urbanisation in the state. Officials said the projects are expected to generate employment opportunities, attract private investment and improve operational efficiencies across sectors.

With the cumulative investment slated at ₹5,450 crore, the event is being positioned as a key milestone in Assam’s development calendar, reflecting a combination of central government support, regional planning and strategic infrastructure expansion.
