Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth more than ₹7,100 crore in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu on March 1, 2026, officials said.

The ambitious set of initiatives includes key road, rail, urban development, water supply and tourism-related projects aimed at boosting connectivity, economic growth and public service delivery in the two Union Territory and state.

The Prime Minister’s visit will mark the formal launch of several flagship projects, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure, enhancing mobility and expanding access to essential services.

Among the major works expected to be dedicated to the nation are improvements and expansions to national and state highways, rail connectivity enhancements, water supply augmentation schemes, and development of civic infrastructure in urban and rural areas.

The combined investment of over ₹7,100 crore is part of ongoing efforts to accelerate regional development and integrate Puducherry and Tamil Nadu more effectively into national economic corridors. Enhanced infrastructure is projected to improve travel times, expand economic activity, generate jobs and attract further investment.

Officials involved in project implementation said that the projects have been prioritised for completion and operational readiness ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, ensuring that beneficiaries across sectors stand to gain from improved infrastructure services.

Local stakeholders and community representatives have welcomed the announcement, noting that the sanctioned works will address longstanding gaps in connectivity, urban amenities and access to essential utilities.

The launch event on March 1 is expected to be attended by senior government leaders, officials from the Union Territory and state administration, and representatives from key sectors involved in execution of the projects.
